For my Daydream video project, I decided to take a more lighthearted approach than I had originally planned. Initially, I wanted to create a realistic alien invasion with a dramatic build up. I ultimately had to pivot because I could not get the animations to look how I envisioned. When my first idea fell through I spent a while brainstorming and at this time the Will Smith incident happened at the Oscars. I decided to lean into the bad animation style and make something as absurd and fun as possible. I still wanted to stay with the slow dramatic build up and leave the viewer expecting something scary. I had Will Smith rise as the sun to catch the viewer off guard and surprise them with the last thing they expected to happen. I emphasized the video quality and sound design in my video because I wanted a sharp contrast between the buildup and the actual encounter with Will Smith. My goal was to make the encounter as wild and unpredictable as possible so I had the sun Will Smith open his mouth and 3 Will Smith spiders jump out. I chose the spiders because I wanted the viewer to be uncomfortable and I felt that I could combine creepy animation with a gross crawling sound effect effectively. The animation segment for my video could have been longer but I liked the idea of a slow build and then a quick and shocking climax. Overall I am happy with my project and enjoyed learning about AfterEffects and animation principles. The one main thing I wish was different was the timing of the mouth when Will Smith is speaking. I was having trouble syncing the audio to the timing of the mouth.
